Boating 101

https://book.ocbayhopper.com/Experience/Details/54?experience=Boating%20101

Thinking about buying a boat? Just bought one and not sure where to start? Want to feel confident before you rent one on vacation? Boating 101 is the class you wish existed years ago.

In this three-hour hands-on course, you'll cover the essentials — boat systems and safety, navigation and electronics, steering and boat handling, anchoring and docking, understanding waves and crossing wakes, weather and emergency situations, and care and maintenance. By the time you're done, you'll know your way around a vessel and feel ready to hit the water without that knot in your stomach.

Whether you're prepping for a purchase, a rental, or just want to learn a killer new skill on vacation — this is your starting line.

Boating 201

You know the basics — now it's time to learn the local secrets. Boating 201 is built for boaters who want real-world knowledge of Ocean City's waterways, inlets, and the unique conditions that come with running a boat around here.

This three-hour course covers navigation of the shallow back bays from south to north — Sinepuxent Bay, Isle of Wight Bay, and Assawoman Bay — along with instruction and considerations for running the Ocean City Inlet. You'll learn how to use trim effectively, understand weight distribution while running in tide and wave activity, and handle the wind and current conditions that catch newcomers off guard. Topics from Boating 101 are also included, so even if you skipped that course, you'll be covered.

If you own a boat, rent one regularly, or plan to spend time on OC's coastal bays, this is the course that turns a nervous boater into a confident one.

Boating 301

https://book.ocbayhopper.com/Experience/Details/29?experience=Boating%20301

You've got the fundamentals. You know the local waters. Now it's time to sharpen the advanced skills that separate casual boaters from true captains.

Boating 301 dives deep into advanced docking and turning techniques, troubleshooting boat systems, maintenance schedules and upkeep, and guidance on purchasing safety gear and handling emergency situations. This is the stuff that keeps your boat running right and keeps you out of trouble.

And for the anglers? We've got you covered. You'll learn how to set up your boat and gear for fishing the back bays, inlets, and offshore locations. We'll cover anchoring, drifting, trolling, and the use of "spot lock" trolling motors, plus tips and tricks for local hot spots, targeting local gamefish, and maximizing your boat's space to handle multiple species.

This course is led by Captain Keith Jacobs — a 100-Ton USCG Master Captain with a lifetime of experience running boats and fishing from the Mid-Atlantic to the Bahamas and beyond. Captain Keith lives full-time in coastal Delaware and spends the majority of his time on the water in Ocean City. If there's a better person to learn from, we haven't found them.
